Teaching is what I do and have always done:  for 34 years as an enthusiastic teacher, Head of Languages and Head of Sixth Form at a local 11 – 18 school and, since September 2022, as a tutor working from home.

I have a degree in French and German and a Masters of Education. Besides teaching languages, I have had the privilege of supporting countless students through their university and job applications and have helped many sixth formers achieve high grades in their level 3 Extended Project Qualification.

Since I began tutoring, I have been fortunate to cover a range of disciplines. I teach French and German to adults for pleasure and to teenagers to support their preparation for state examinations. In addition, teaching French to primary-aged pupils has been a wonderful experience and I am more convinced than ever that learning a foreign language at a young age gives children several advantages: an awareness and understanding of cultural differences; an ability to communicate in a second language using basic words and phrases and an appreciation of grammar and structures which enhances their ability in English. I also teach English and maths to primary pupils aged 4 to 11, supporting preparation for the 11+ examination and the Key Stage 2 SATs.  I was pleased to be asked to give English lessons to a Ukrainian couple and I am so glad I took this opportunity. I now have 40 hours of English as a Foreign Language lessons prepared for anyone who would like to improve their active and passive English skills.

I continue to enjoy planning and delivering high-quality lessons while supporting students’ individual needs via one-to-one and small group tuition. I adore creating my own resources, activities and games, fuelled by an irrepressible love of words and grammar.  I have a keen interest in supporting our local young people to enjoy learning, to aim high and to fulfil their potential.

Beyond teaching, I am blessed with a wonderful family and several close friends. I love walking on local beaches with my gorgeous little terrier, reading, listening to Podcasts and becoming engrossed in a good TV drama.

I look forward to hearing from you and to supporting your learning.

Best Wishes

Sandra
